Pied à Terre, Sonoma County, CA '18
$61.00
This wine is made by local East Dallas resident Richard Luftig. After a couple of decades of making a name for himself in the NYC wine scene as an award-winning wine director and sommelier, Richard Luftig traveled west to California with the goal of making delicious, unmanipulated wine that is affordable. His vision led him to Sonoma and the creation of Pied à Terre, with a focus on both sustainable and healthy viticulture practices and minimal intervention techniques in the cellar. Richard believes that “the farmer’s foot is the best fertilizer. When the land is well-trodden, the vine will be well-tended, the details not overlooked.” Hence, the name “Pied à Terre,” which translates to “foot on the ground” and how that philosophy has guided Richard to making some of the best quality-to-value wines you can find in California. Pied à Terre is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon a number of different vineyards and regions in Sonoma County. The wine was aged exclusively in French oak, 20% of which was new. The wine is intensely aromatic with vibrant red fruits and a touch of smoke and crushed stone. There is great intensity and freshness to the wine, with subtle tannins and a refreshing acidity. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot with all the varieties vinified separately in stainless steel tanks for 20-25 days at a controlled temperature not above 28° C. Nebbiolo
G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe Italy '20
$89.00
#9 Wine on Wine Spectator's Top 100 list for 2024. 94 points. Aldo Vaira took control of the family vineyards in 1968, when he was just 15 years old. Today, G.D. Vajra is one of the Piedmont region’s most recognized estates and comprises 150 acres, mostly around the commune of Barolo. Aldo and his wife, Milena, are joined by their children, Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro. Though there are three Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) bottlings at the top of Vajra’s range, it’s Barolo Albe that best represents the winery’s elegant, high-elevation style, delivering consistent quality for an attractive price. Sourced from parcels ranging from 1,250 to 1,585 feet in elevation, the various lots macerated for one to three months, then aged 26 months in 4,000-, 5,000- and 7,500-liter Slavonian oak casks. Tasting Note: This effusive red displays cherry, raspberry, rose, iron, juniper and hay flavors, underscored by vibrant acidity. Winemaker Notes: A classic style Barolo. Excellent structure, harmony and elegance. Soft tannins and balanced fruit. From five villages, primarily Serralunga, Monforte, La Morra, Grinzane Cavour, and Novello. Needs two or three years to open and will age for a very long time."
Nero D'Avola
Duca Di Salaparuta Duca Enrico Sicily Italy '19
$139.00
Genuinely Sicilian. As Duca di Salaparuta nears its 200th year, the winery proudly presents the thirty-fifth harvest of its most iconic wine: Duca Enrico. The label embodies the two souls of this winery – an innovative spirit and a deep bond with Sicily and its history – and gives life to a fascinating project centered on continuing an impressive wine heritage.
In 1984, Duca Enrico was Duca di Salaparuta’s first and most important tribute to Nero d’Avola, a rough yet bold grape that has made Sicilian viticulture known to the rest of the world. At a time when the potential of this variety was not yet recognized, Duca di Salaparuta decided to vinify a 100% Nero d’Avola for the first time, inaugurating a new era of Sicilian winemaking. This is how Duca Enrico came to life: the result of the desire to produce an outstanding Sicilian red wine that can rise among the top enological expressions from all over the globe. A salty and savory nose on this wine has crushed rocks, pencil shavings, new leather and then balsamic vinegar, wild oregano and black pepper. Dried cherries and strawberry candy come through on the palate before grilled meat, rocks, soil and the slightly sour saltiness of vinegar are pointed up by powerful acid.
Poulsard
Vignerons Les Matheny Arbois Rouge '22 Jura France
$89.00
Please try this wine. New roads can lead to excitement. Guaranteed smile producer. "I was sold on Emeric’s 2022 Poulsard from the nose alone: cardamom, rose petals, roasted root vegetables slathered in cinnamon; earthy but pure, and overflowing with the kind of spice whose siren song led men to treacherous sea voyages in centuries past. The palate, sappy and succulent, echoes the nose in its complexity, yet it glides, lifts, and swells effortlessly, leaving clinging, cleansing stoniness in its wake. Honestly, I was unprepared for its beauty, and it made me fall in love with Poulsard all over again. I hope you’ll try some, too." from Sophia Charow of Rosenthal Wine Merchants.

While most of the estate vineyards are in the Dundee Hills, Roserock Vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills has become increasingly key to the winery’s success since the Drouhins purchased the 122-acre vineyard in 2013. Véronique Boss-Drouhin, who oversees winemaking operations in both Burgundy and Oregon, blended a selection from the vineyard’s 35 individual blocks, which she fermented separately. Eola-Amity Pinot Noirs are known for their powerful structure, but Boss-Drouhin strives to accentuate the house’s graceful style. Elk Cove Vineyards, Estate Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Oregon '24
$53.00/bottle
VINEYARD: Our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is made with 100% estate grown fruit from all six of our vineyard sites: The Winery Estate, Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich and Windhill. These sites are comprised of both Pommard and Dijon plant material, with multiple clones represented. Because we draw from vineyards representing all three of the major Willamette Valley soil types, we are able to pick and choose for different flavor components to make the best possible blend each year for our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Some people call this making wine “spice rack” style, we usually just call it delicious. Our goal is the perfect version of what we believe a Willamette Valley Pinot should be: a wine with freshness of fruit, well-integrated alcohol, and great concentration of flavor. WINEMAKING: To make our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, fruit from each vineyard block is fermented separately in small, temperature controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, and barreled in french oak barrels. After 10 months of aging in French oak, the wine we choose for our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is carefully blended to produce the most approachable, well-balanced Pinot Noir we make.

Maison Fréderic Magnien Bourgogne Pinot Noir France '22
$64.00
Winemaker Notes: Aromas of black cherries, raspberries and earth. Bright, fresh and juicy; flavors of raspberries, blueberry jam, baking spices. Of all our Burgundy producers, Frédéric Magnien, with his impressive selection of historic premier cru and grand cru terroirs, offers the most complete experience for those passionate about Burgundy wines. For those just beginning their exploration, Magnien Burgundy is the ideal gateway to truly understanding the myriad tastes that this wine region promises. Each of Magnien’s many exemplary crus brings you closer to the true meaning of terroir—whether the orange essence of grand cru Echezeaux or the chocolaty core of Morey ‘Millandes.’ And for those who have already been seduced by all that is Burgundy, Magnien offers a lifetime of exploration into the region’s most impressive and rare vineyards, now all within reach. Frédéric is a fifth-generation winemaker from Morey-Saint-Denis, and Burgundy is the family’s lifeblood. Learning the craft first from his father, Michel Magnien (of Domaine Michel Magnien), Fred also traveled to California and Australia to hone his talents before returning home and starting his own négociant domaine in his native village. There’s no question that Magnien knows every nook and cranny of Burgundy by heart. As a child, he used these vineyards as his off-road bicycle course, riding through premier and grand cru plots. As a winemaker, Magnien still rides his bike through the fields to greet growers at first light; his are long-lasting partnerships based on trust and respect. Magnien has also further refined the role of négociant given his tight connections to growers in Burgundy. His long-standing relationships involve his own teams tending vines according to organic and biodynamic practices throughout the growing season, During the harvest, it is also his teams who cut grapes by hand and transfer them carefully to his cellar in Morey-Saint-Denis. This level of attention means quality is assured from field to bottle, and makes his small-batch wines the treasures that they are.

The ever-changing nose of the Southing exhibits Montmorency cherry, sage, hibiscus and subtle baking spices. The fine tannins and minerality are enhanced by our estate vineyard’s characteristic cool climate acidity. About the highly allocated Sea Smoke fromt the winery: For years, vintners have coveted a stretch of land in the western end of Santa Barbara's Santa Rita Hills AVA known to have the perfect microclimate, soils, and exposure to grow world-class Pinot Noir. In 1999, fulfilling a long-held dream of owner Bob Davids, this sought-after stretch of land became Sea Smoke Vineyard.
At Sea Smoke, we produce Pinot Noir grown exclusively on the south-facing hillsides of our estate vineyards. On summer evenings, the Santa Ynez River canyon funnels a cool maritime fog layer (sea "smoke") across our hillsides, slowing the ripening process and providing the extended maturation period essential to the development of top-quality Pinot Noir.
Our shallow clay soils are planted to French clones on vigor-reducing rootstocks, resulting in fewer grape clusters of intense flavor, and our artisinal approach to winemaking results in wines that are a reflection of the unique land on which they are grown.
We believe that Sea Smoke's rare geography and commitment to quality have produced wines of exceptional complexity and grace. We hope that you agree and welcome your comments.
Sangiovese
Fattoria Poggerino Chianti Classico Nouvo Italy '19
$95.00
Poggerino's wines are produced organically, exclusively from their own grapes, and every step of wine production and marketing is carried out by the owners themselves. The owner, Piero Lanza, believes in an almost fanatical attention to vineyard work. His goal is to set the stage for healthy vines, and ultimately, beautiful wines, by caring for the land holistically, in rhythm with the seasons, and as custodian for its natural biodiversity and richness. The results are healthy grapes with the highest degree of concentration and ripeness, perfectly reflective of their unique Tuscan terroir. Tasting Notes Bright ruby red color. On the nose notes of earth, graphite, tobacco and hints of fruit. Extremely complex, sweet, and persistent tannins.
Salcheto Nobile di Montepulciano Italy '20
$44.00
Based on the Sangiovese grape (here called Prugnolo Gentile), the village’s prized wine called Vino Nobile di Montepulciano ranks stylistically in between Chianti Classico, for its finesse, and Brunello di Montalcino for its power. "The nose is defined by a delicate sweetness, as undertones of clove and orange peel bring nuance to leading aromas of vanilla and strawberry, followed by a crack of black pepper. On the palate, fruit leads the way, but a hint of that bitter, spicy element perseveres all the way through the warm, acidic finish." — Danielle Callegari. Critical Acclaim - 94 points Wine Enthusiast.
Tannat & Blends
Y. Rousseau Wines Son of a Butcher Red Blend CA '20
$46.00
Yannick Rousseau is a son of a butcher! Yannick's father was a butcher that hailed from a small town in Gascony located in southwestern France. SOB is an unmistakable California resident...rich and juicy with a youthful vibe. This blend of Tannat and Bordeaux varietals never forgets its french roots or that certain "je ne sais quoi."
Tempranillo
Marques de Cáceres Crianza Rioja '22
$42.00
Winemaker Notes Brilliant ruby red of medium depth. The bouquet is fresh, combining hints of black fruit with balsamic undertones. Subtle spice and refined oak nuances appear, enriched by delicate touches of liquorice that contribute to a harmonious complexity. On the palate it shows good volume, with supple texture and fine tannins that unfold smoothly across the tasting. The finish is savory, lifted by refreshing balsamic and minty accents. A well-structured, balanced wine, full of finesse and versatility, perfect for sharing and enjoying on special occasions. In 1970, Enrique Forner founded Marqués de Cáceres Unión Vitivinícola S.A., a historic alliance of growers in the village of Cenicero in the Rioja Alta subregion of Rioja. The enterprising Forner family has been devoted to the wine trade for five generations. Their search for the best vine growers and vineyards in Rioja and the introduction of a Bordeaux concept revolutionized the production and business model of the region. They work with one single objective: producing the highest quality wines. Today this obsession continues to be the leitmotif of Cristina Forner, the fifth generation of this distinguished wine family.
Zinfandel & Blends
Bedrock Winery Old Vine Zinfandel CA '20
$62.00
Winemaker Notes: The largest single component comes from the old vines at Bedrock Vineyard, followed by the perfumed goodness of Esola Vineyard, the softer but fresh Schmiedt Vineyard, and the peppery, dark-fruited Nervo Ranch Vineyard. As usual, almost all of the wine consists of declassified barrels from vineyard-designated wines, so it offers serious bang for the buck. 85% Zinfandel with the balance a blend of Carignan, Mataro, Grenache, and Alicante Bouschet, along with esoteric creatures like Aubun, Abouriou, and many more. Critical Acclaim: A briar patch of a wine, with zesty wild berry, underbrush and licorice flavors that finish with medium-grained tannins. 90 points Wine Spectator
Day by Ehren Jordan, Grist Vineyard Dry Creek Valley CA '18
$68.00
Day is the Zinfandel project of Ehren Jordan, the winemaker behind such amazing labels as Turley, Neyers, and Failla. When he purchased a St. Helena property back in 2004, he knew he wanted to plant grapes on the hillside. After a few years of pondering, he decided that the locale was ideal for one of his early loves in the vine world - Zinfandel. Ehren established his reputation as a talented vigneron during his tenure at Turley and Day is a return to those roots. Named for the old grist mill that was found on the property, Grist sits pretty at 1000 ft. elevation on Bradford Mountain in the Dry Creek Valley AVA. The site was originally planted 100 years ago, and has since been replanted in the early 1970s. Farming here is Organic. The iron rich, red volcanic Boomer Loam soil results in low yields and concentrated wines.
Ridge Vineyards Three Valleys Sonoma County CA '23
$52.00
Made since 2001 from a number of Sonoma County vineyards, the 2023 Three Valleys blends 71% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% each Mataro and Alicante Bouschet from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley. Floral, it is complex and less rustic than usual, the vintage showing classic charm and elegance. Though it is one of Ridge's largest production wines, it is made in the exact same way as all its others, in open top tanks with real oak and native fermentations. It's meant to represent a vintage more than a location. A popular by-the-glass pour, order it when you see it. 93 Points Jeb Dunnuck.
Turley, 'Juvenile' California '21
$64.00
Though the vast majority of Turley's wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their old vine sites. They tag the vine when it is replanted so as not to mix the brand new vine with its much older neighbors, then pick these young vines separately and make a distinct wine. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and Turley pulls from 18 of their best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann.

A fabulously sherried single malt from Glengoyne, matured predominantly in first fill European oak sherry casks for 21 long years. Its time in the cask has bestowed upon it lovely rich fruity notes with an exceptionally long finish. This fantastic whisky was winner of a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018. Impressive stuff.
Macallan 12 Highland Scotch
$15.00
Macallan 12 Year is a classic sherry-cask-matured Highland that makes a very good gateway into the single malt category. Flavors of fruitcake, warmed bread, soaked raisins, & clove lead to a warm, medium to long finish noted with pear, cigar, & peppery clove notes.
Orphan Barrel Muckety-Muck 24-Year Old Single Grain Scotch Whiskey
$33.00
Orphan Barrel’s 2020 release is Muckety-Muck, a 24-year-old single grain Scotch whisky from the shuttered Port Dundas distillery. It’s the second release whose origins come a closed Scottish distillery. Last year saw Forager’s Keep, a 26-year-old single malt from Pittyvaich. For years, the series almost exclusively featured old Kentucky bourbon. I’m glad to see the brand, owned by Diageo, explore its expansive library of aging whiskies in Scotland.
Single grain means the whisky comes from one distillery and was distilled from a cereal grain. Whereas malt whiskies are distilled using pot stills, grain whiskies are typically distilled using column stills. Established in 1810, Port Dundas was at one time the largest distillery in Scotland. Production stopped and the distillery was demolished in 2011.
Older single grain whiskies can be dreamy, and this bottling is no exception. Soft top notes of vanilla and butterscotch mingle with ripe orchard fruits on the nose. The palate mostly follows suit, sprinkling in some baking spices and lemon rind. The whisky reveals a touch of rancio on the back palate, a sign of its age. The medium length finish is warming with lingering semi-sweet notes.
JAPANESE WHISKEY
Yamazaki 12 Single Malt Whisky
$24.00
This splash of heaven is so rare as to be almost impoosible to get. The Yamazaki Whisky is Suntory's flagship single malt whisky, from Japan’s first and oldest malt distillery. This whisky contains carefully blended components aged in American, Spanish, and Japanese Mizunara oak.
The production of Yamazaki 12 Year combines age-old techniques with modern innovation results in what is considered by many to be a high-caliber take on whiskey. With its average price tag per bottle sitting in the triple digits, this is one spirit that is meant to be savored.
Yamazaki 12 Year is a prestigious whisky with a cadre of fans across the globe. It's also the recipient of numerous whisky awards. Its accolades include winning Gold at the International Spirits Challenge in 2003 and 2010, and Double Gold at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2013, as well as several other awards.
Fuji Single Grain Whisky
$18.00
Situated at the base of Mt. Fuji, only 7.5 miles from its peak, the Fuji Distillery (https://fujiwhisky.com/) has been making whisky in the shadow of Japan’s most famous mountain since 1973. Despite that, their first US release came only in 2021.
This is extremely limited. In point of fact, Hillside Tavern was allocated only 1 bottle!
This release of Fuji Single Grain Japanese Whiskey is a blend of Fuji’s three in-house grain whiskies and is bottled at 46% ABV. It was created to highlight both the similarities and differences of different grain whiskies from around the world, with a Japanese flair.
The fruity notes are present with apple and pear coming out again, vanilla and some grain notes in the back. It tastes less ‘bourbon-y’ then the nose suggests, yet can still be described as a lighter feeling and tasting style of bourbon. The finish is nice and long, morphing to orange and chocolate. With water, the aroma is more pleasing as the water pushes the grain notes back and pulls the fruity notes forward.
If you’re a bourbon drinker looking to try something new, this may be what you’re looking for. It just might win you over with its complex yet lighter bourbon-like qualities.
Come get you some, cause when i
t’s gone, it’s truly gone!
RYE WHISKEY
WhistlePig 15 Rye Whiskey

Sustainably harvested off our 500-acre farm, the wood has more rings than the standard American oak used in whiskey barrels, imparting more flavor during oak-aging. Custom toast & char profiles take the flavor even further, just like a perfectly toasted marshmallow. You've probably heard of Angel's Envy Rye Whiskey. Produced in limited quantities each year—less than 8,000 bottles—it has been lauded by whiskey connoisseurs for years.

Features a long, smoky wheat finish with hints of fruit, spice and oak tannins.
Pappy Van Winkle 12 Special Reserve
$32.00
Van Winkle Special Reserve is the perfect combination of age and proof. This sweet, full-bodied whiskey has been described by some as “nectar.” The 12 years of aging and medium proof seem to be just right in creating a very pleasant drink of whiskey. This fine bourbon can compete with any excellent cognac as an after-dinner drink. The overall impression is rich and deep.
Bardstown "The Prisoner" Collaborative Series
$32.00

AMERICAN WHISKEY
"Little Book Chapter 07" crafted by Freddie Noe
$26.00

From the Whiskey Advocate: For this seventh chapter of the Little Book series, eighth-generation Jim Beam master distiller Freddie Noe blended the liquids of the previous six chapters with a new one. It’s quite a combination—a mix of straight bourbons aged 18, 17, 9, and 4 years, along with 10 year old and 4 year old ryes, and 5 year old straight malt that was finished in applewood-smoked barrels. The result is a rich array of flavors— chocolate cake, baked apples, and cinnamon—with plenty of heat, spice, and a long finish. There’s great unity of flavor, and it carries its proof remarkably well. Our highest-scoring Little Book to date.
