This sparkling wine—one of the flagship Crémants d’Alsace—is made exclusively from Pinot Noir grown on terroirs favourable to the sole Alsatian red grape variety. Gavalas Winery Assyrtiko hails from the magical, postcard picture perfect island of Santorini. Gavalas family winery, one of the oldest wineries in Santorini, lies in the traditional village of Megalochori. The purpose of the family is to highlight the particular characteristics of Santorini’s “terroir”. The fourth generation winemaker is George Gavalas and the fifth is his son, Vagelis. This 100% Assyrtiko has aromas of citrus, lemon, pear and peach accompany the typical saltiness and minerality of Assyrtiko. Full body with high acidity and long aftertaste.

The Sarrazin brothers are known for making spectacular high-altitude Côte Chalonnaise Burgundy from the village of Jambles, a tiny hamlet just outside of Givry that is 300 meters above sea level. The brothers have gained a reputation over the last decade for being meticulous stewards of their high-altitude vineyards around Givry, Mercurey and Maranges. They craft traditional wines that show a clarity of terroir not common in the region, with all of the fruit de-stemmed and extraction kept to a minimum.

A longtime favorite at Boulevardier where we have carried this wine for many, many years. Pale gold with green hints. Very expressive, intense and complex nose with boxwood, rhubarb, black currant, kiwi, and a light vegetal touch (marigold). The entry is soft and round. The 2024 Domaine du Nozay Sancerre (Château du Nozay) is a 100% Sauvignon Blanc white wine from the Loire Valley, France. Blended from the traditional Bordeaux varietals, this wine builds on 5 decades of crafting great Napa County mountain-grown wines. Dark and spicy, this wine displays beautiful aromas of currant, cassis, sage and thyme, as well as hints of cinnamon and clove from barrel aging. On the palate, balanced tannins, ripe berry flavors, layers of cola and grenadine. Wine Enthusiast 90 Points: This well-made blend leads with 44% Cabernet Sauvignon, adding in 33% Merlot and smaller amounts of Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. 94 POINTS Decanter - The 2022 Peju Legacy Collection Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged for 19 months in 40% new French and American oak, crafted by winemaker Sara Fowler. Fragrant notes of spiced plums, leather, fine cedar, and violets lift from the glass. Full-bodied, it features a framework of elongated, supple tannins, creamy black cherry fruits, dark plum jam, mocha, and a cool wet slate character on the lengthy finish.

This wine is made by local East Dallas resident Richard Luftig. After a couple of decades of making a name for himself in the NYC wine scene as an award-winning wine director and sommelier, Richard Luftig traveled west to California with the goal of making delicious, unmanipulated wine that is affordable. His vision led him to Sonoma and the creation of Pied à Terre, with a focus on both sustainable and healthy viticulture practices and minimal intervention techniques in the cellar. Richard believes that “the farmer’s foot is the best fertilizer. When the land is well-trodden, the vine will be well-tended, the details not overlooked.” Hence, the name “Pied à Terre,” which translates to “foot on the ground” and how that philosophy has guided Richard to making some of the best quality-to-value wines you can find in California. Pied à Terre is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon a number of different vineyards and regions in Sonoma County. The wine was aged exclusively in French oak, 20% of which was new. The wine is intensely aromatic with vibrant red fruits and a touch of smoke and crushed stone. There is great intensity and freshness to the wine, with subtle tannins and a refreshing acidity. Enjoy this wine with a roast beef or ham.

This is arguably the best Columbia Valley Sauvignon Blanc ever made. Their vineyards in Washington State set Quilceda Creek apart. As the 12th bonded winery in the state post Prohibition, their longevity has given them years to refine their vineyard sourcing and perfect our farming practices. As the industry and vine acreage in Washington State have grown, they have used their depth of knowledge and experience to their advantage, singling out properties with the combination of geography, climate and soils capable of producing layered and complex Cabernet Sauvignons.

Within the DOC Bolgheri area, Tenuta Argentiera is the closest estate to the sea and the one that reaches the highest altitude, spreading from the plains to the hills. Its vineyards are completely surrounded by luxuriant Mediterranean vegetation. The estate is cultivated with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Syrah, which are extremely typical, superb quality vines of the Bolgheri area as proven by neighbors like Sassicaia and Ornellaia. The wineries and cellars are made of recycled or traditional materials such as terracotta and baked roofing tiles. The vineyards are surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and the countryside is flush with maritime pines and olive tree groves. The blend is 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 15% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot with all the varieties vinified separately in stainless steel tanks for 20-25 days at a controlled temperature not above 28° C. The wine then completed malolactic fermentation in 225 liter French-oak barrels. The wine then spent 12 months in barrels and at least another 10 months in bottles, prior to release. Vajra is one of the Piedmont region’s most recognized estates and comprises 150 acres, mostly around the commune of Barolo. Aldo and his wife, Milena, are joined by their children, Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro. Though there are three Menzioni Geografiche Aggiuntive (MGA) bottlings at the top of Vajra’s range, it’s Barolo Albe that best represents the winery’s elegant, high-elevation style, delivering consistent quality for an attractive price. In 1984, Duca Enrico was Duca di Salaparuta’s first and most important tribute to Nero d’Avola, a rough yet bold grape that has made Sicilian viticulture known to the rest of the world. At a time when the potential of this variety was not yet recognized, Duca di Salaparuta decided to vinify a 100% Nero d’Avola for the first time, inaugurating a new era of Sicilian winemaking. This is how Duca Enrico came to life: the result of the desire to produce an outstanding Sicilian red wine that can rise among the top enological expressions from all over the globe. A salty and savory nose on this wine has crushed rocks, pencil shavings, new leather and then balsamic vinegar, wild oregano and black pepper. The domaine’s Passetoutgrain comprises 50% Pinot Noir and 50% Gamay from 0.4 hectare’s worth of vines in the lieux-dits Les Mailles in Magny-lès-Villers and Sous le Mont in Villers-sur-Faye. The 50-year-old vines are harvested together and co-fermented in stainless steel after a pre-fermentation cold soak, and the wine spends 18 months settling in tank before being bottled without filtration. This is a vibrant, snappy Passetoutgrain with great lift and energy on the palate, nicely reflecting the cooler microclimate of these Hautes-Côtes vineyards.

Sourced from vines aged 28–55 years on limestone-clay soils, this 2022 vintage displays a powerful palate with a stony, fresh acidity and an impressive finish. This marks the third time a Roserock wine has achieved a place in the Wine Spectator’s annual Top 100, which says a lot about this exceptional vineyard and the care put into producing these wines. 94 points! Domaine Drouhin is the Oregon outpost of Burgundy’s Maison Joseph Drouhin. While most of the estate vineyards are in the Dundee Hills, Roserock Vineyard in Eola-Amity Hills has become increasingly key to the winery’s success since the Drouhins purchased the 122-acre vineyard in 2013. Véronique Boss-Drouhin, who oversees winemaking operations in both Burgundy and Oregon, blended a selection from the vineyard’s 35 individual blocks, which she fermented separately. Eola-Amity Pinot Noirs are known for their powerful structure, but Boss-Drouhin strives to accentuate the house’s graceful style. This 2022 aged in French oak barrels (20 percent of which were new) for 10 months.

VINEYARD: Our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is made with 100% estate grown fruit from all six of our vineyard sites: The Winery Estate, Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich and Windhill. These sites are comprised of both Pommard and Dijon plant material, with multiple clones represented. Because we draw from vineyards representing all three of the major Willamette Valley soil types, we are able to pick and choose for different flavor components to make the best possible blend each year for our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir. Some people call this making wine “spice rack” style, we usually just call it delicious. Our goal is the perfect version of what we believe a Willamette Valley Pinot should be: a wine with freshness of fruit, well-integrated alcohol, and great concentration of flavor. WINEMAKING: To make our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, fruit from each vineyard block is fermented separately in small, temperature controlled steel tanks, hand punched down twice daily, and barreled in french oak barrels. After 10 months of aging in French oak, the wine we choose for our Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is carefully blended to produce the most approachable, well-balanced Pinot Noir we make.

There’s no question that Magnien knows every nook and cranny of Burgundy by heart. As a child, he used these vineyards as his off-road bicycle course, riding through premier and grand cru plots. As a winemaker, Magnien still rides his bike through the fields to greet growers at first light; his are long-lasting partnerships based on trust and respect. Magnien has also further refined the role of négociant given his tight connections to growers in Burgundy. His long-standing relationships involve his own teams tending vines according to organic and biodynamic practices throughout the growing season, During the harvest, it is also his teams who cut grapes by hand and transfer them carefully to his cellar in Morey-Saint-Denis. This level of attention means quality is assured from field to bottle, and makes his small-batch wines the treasures that they are.

Poggerino's wines are produced organically, exclusively from their own grapes, and every step of wine production and marketing is carried out by the owners themselves. Day is the Zinfandel project of Ehren Jordan, the winemaker behind such amazing labels as Turley, Neyers, and Failla. When he purchased a St. Helena property back in 2004, he knew he wanted to plant grapes on the hillside. After a few years of pondering, he decided that the locale was ideal for one of his early loves in the vine world - Zinfandel. Ehren established his reputation as a talented vigneron during his tenure at Turley and Day is a return to those roots. Named for the old grist mill that was found on the property, Grist sits pretty at 1000 ft. elevation on Bradford Mountain in the Dry Creek Valley AVA. The site was originally planted 100 years ago, and has since been replanted in the early 1970s. Farming here is Organic. The iron rich, red volcanic Boomer Loam soil results in low yields and concentrated wines.

Made since 2001 from a number of Sonoma County vineyards, the 2023 Three Valleys blends 71% Zinfandel, 16% Carignane, 9% Petite Sirah, 2% each Mataro and Alicante Bouschet from Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Sonoma Valley, and Russian River Valley. Floral, it is complex and less rustic than usual, the vintage showing classic charm and elegance. Though it is one of Ridge's largest production wines, it is made in the exact same way as all its others, in open top tanks with real oak and native fermentations. Though the vast majority of Turley's wines are single vineyard designates, Juvenile is actually composed of a variety of young vines that have been replanted in several of their old vine sites. They tag the vine when it is replanted so as not to mix the brand new vine with its much older neighbors, then pick these young vines separately and make a distinct wine. The vines that make up Juvenile range in age from about 6-25 years, and Turley pulls from 18 of their best vineyards across California, including Hayne, Ueberroth, Pesenti, Salvador, Vineyard 101, Fredericks and Kirschenmann.

A fabulously sherried single malt from Glengoyne, matured predominantly in first fill European oak sherry casks for 21 long years. Its time in the cask has bestowed upon it lovely rich fruity notes with an exceptionally long finish. This fantastic whisky was winner of a Double Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2018. Impressive stuff.

Macallan 12 Year is a classic sherry-cask-matured Highland that makes a very good gateway into the single malt category. Flavors of fruitcake, warmed bread, soaked raisins, & clove lead to a warm, medium to long finish noted with pear, cigar, & peppery clove notes.

Orphan Barrel’s 2020 release is Muckety-Muck, a 24-year-old single grain Scotch whisky from the shuttered Port Dundas distillery. It’s the second release whose origins come a closed Scottish distillery. Last year saw Forager’s Keep, a 26-year-old single malt from Pittyvaich. For years, the series almost exclusively featured old Kentucky bourbon. I’m glad to see the brand, owned by Diageo, explore its expansive library of aging whiskies in Scotland. Single grain means the whisky comes from one distillery and was distilled from a cereal grain. Whereas malt whiskies are distilled using pot stills, grain whiskies are typically distilled using column stills. Established in 1810, Port Dundas was at one time the largest distillery in Scotland. Production stopped and the distillery was demolished in 2011. Older single grain whiskies can be dreamy, and this bottling is no exception. Soft top notes of vanilla and butterscotch mingle with ripe orchard fruits on the nose. The palate mostly follows suit, sprinkling in some baking spices and lemon rind. The whisky reveals a touch of rancio on the back palate, a sign of its age. The medium length finish is warming with lingering semi-sweet notes.

Situated at the base of Mt. Fuji, only 7.5 miles from its peak, the Fuji Distillery (https://fujiwhisky.com/) has been making whisky in the shadow of Japan’s most famous mountain since 1973. Despite that, their first US release came only in 2021. This is extremely limited. In point of fact, Hillside Tavern was allocated only 1 bottle! This release of Fuji Single Grain Japanese Whiskey is a blend of Fuji’s three in-house grain whiskies and is bottled at 46% ABV. It was created to highlight both the similarities and differences of different grain whiskies from around the world, with a Japanese flair. The fruity notes are present with apple and pear coming out again, vanilla and some grain notes in the back. It tastes less ‘bourbon-y’ then the nose suggests, yet can still be described as a lighter feeling and tasting style of bourbon. The finish is nice and long, morphing to orange and chocolate. With water, the aroma is more pleasing as the water pushes the grain notes back and pulls the fruity notes forward. If you’re a bourbon drinker looking to try something new, this may be what you’re looking for. It just might win you over with its complex yet lighter bourbon-like qualities. Come get you some, cause when i t’s gone, it’s truly gone!
